Rectangles or circle pots?
« on: August 06, 2010, 05:08:05 PM »

I have been using Snazaroo, Wolfe and FX for all of my work,
until I bought a rainbow cake from Anna of Jest Paint. It was a rectangle.
It was the first rainbow cake that I bought and I loved it.
Then I made my own. At a trade show, I bought a Wolfe rainbow in a round container.
It's much harder to get ALL the colors in a circle. The end colors are hard to get
and there is less paint of the end colors.

Last night, while painting a neon butterfly. A girl asked if I could use more of the
neon pink. I wished that too, but it's not so easy!

Soooo...should we use more rectangular pots to even amounts of all our colors in the rainbows?
I think that if I make more soon, I am sticking with rectangles.
"Hey all you rainbow cake makers, let's go with rectangles!" Cheesy

Did you buy Dimond FX Rectangle rainbow cake? Or did you buy some of Anna's home made cakes?  Anna is one of my best friends!  She lives about 18 miles from me. We try to get together and paint ever so often. It has been hard over the past three months with me doing the Ren Faires. She is going to be teaching in Calif at the living canvis convention!  Great pics by the way, great job!

Yes, I think the squares are easier to work with in getting the edges too, but they still wear down in the middle a bit.  I just add the middle colors back in when that happens.

Don't remember is it is  diamond fx or an Anna rainbow neon cake. But I like it and the customers love it, so it is thin through the middle. Need more stuff!

Paradise now has rainbows in the rectangle shape. They're pretty big also.

Rectangle rainbows make so much more sense, are easier to swipe and wear more evenly, the paradise is a nice long swipe and the dfx are awesome too. Most of the time I'm not even using the whole cake just sections with a brush.
I just wish I could get regular paint colours in rectangles or squares for ease of storage, circles waste so much space and I like to keep things in original containers for ingredient lists and identification purposes.

I would have to agree about the circle pots!  I think they take up alote of space. I have two black cases with only 12 circle pots in each one. plus you wear the middle down and then you just have a ring around the out side of the pot.  I end up stacking a few extra pots on top of the ones on the bottom.  I have thought about getting a craft box with square compartments in it and putting my paints in that, but I know I would hate it because I can't stand the looks of paint smeared on the sides of the plastic.  I always am cleaning my paints, I have got to be unGODLY tired to close the cases if they are dirty and clean it at home. I love the little one inch square pots for fast work. I make my own and alote of time I put 5 to 7 colors in one little one inch pot, it is so pretty.

I do like both, but prefer the square pots. Like you said, I think the colors apply more evenly, however, with my square cakes, the middle still wears out first. I think it has to do with the amount of pressure, but with a round cake, cause there's more paint in the middle, it works for me.

Eh - I just like rainbow cakes!  Lol

The nice things about the square containters, is you get a TON more of them into your case. I have one case.

I have one case for the wet paints, and one for my powders.  Since I cannot remove the powders from their containers, I don't get  as many squished in there!

I do not like the new Mehron cakes as well as the Diamond FX ones because the Mehron's are TOO blendy.  By the time I get done with a flower, the colors have all blended into one color.

A few days ago at Bodyssey, Jinny tried to help me do better with them, but, even she was getting all one color by the end.

If you are a sponge person, the round containers are better for you.  I think flat brush fans like the square containers.

I started this posting and I am thinking today:
But rectangles have corners. How easy is it to use up the corners.
I guess there are pros and cons for each.
