Not closing the paints
« on: May 11, 2010, 07:42:08 PM »

So.... I love having full containers of all my paints, I think it looks so much more professional.

However, I HATE opening up each one , one at a time.

Has anyone just not close their paints??
For instance, leave all the lids off of them, but only closing the white and black??
Was thinking of doing this but didn't know if there was something I should keep in mind before taking the plunge.

- I wouldn't throw my lids away... just keep them till they are needed.

now that's a thought....i have thought about doing that myself....but i guess you would have to make sure they wouldn't be wet and drippy before you put them up....or even get damaged......i get tired of the lids too....i took my paint out of the case because i had so many....i had found a really cute little casethat will hold all of them...it was used to hold liquor. it's very nice leather and black and it's about 18 inches long...holds them all....i took my old paint case and put it in the closet for future.

see - I didn't like any of the cases I found online so I made my own.
It will hold 4 x 10 wolfe containers - so 40 cakes total... i LOVE it.
I think it looks very professional, but darn those lids!!! they get really annoying

All my paints in my case, I keep the lids off. I made a case out of wood, the one that fits on top of my toolbox. it closes and latches on one end. So when I go do a gig, I just open the case and I am ready to go!

Perfect, that's what I was wondering! Do you have issues with stuff flying into your paints? Or how about one paints "stabbing" the other? Are your paints loose or attached to the container?

I take the lids off after I get to the gig, but it is a hassle.  I put them all in a bag, so I can find them all at the end.  I find that less used paints will get hard and dry if I leave the lid off too long.  With often used paints I NEED to leave the lids off for a while to let them harden up.

I use an A4 plastic document folder for my loose paints like these http://www.lakeland.co.uk/F/keyword/A4+document/product/7950 Here is a picture of it the open plastic case above the Grimas paints.
and I stack my grimas in two stacks and just put lids on the two tops.

I love how your colors are organized.  I heard Grimas don't have preservatives.  Do you have to worry about the age of your paints because of that or store or use in any special way?

Love your setup.  Neat and organized.

Vi I love your box so colourful and pretty.
Just read all about Grimas and it seems they do have Preservatives. Here is the link if you are interested.   http://www.grimas.nl/website/voorbeeld/grimasm.php?browser=&version=&taal=en     I have never had any problems.

I threw all my lids away over a year ago.  I cut my paint out of their containers, and shove them into small retangular plastic boxes.  Then, I velrox those into a palette.

You are looking at the paints on the left in a black palette, on a black tablecloth.  The powders on another one to the right.

mollie - you talking to me?? that is my whole set-up...lol
I have a water pitcher on the floor for dirty water - other than that - this is it!

sherry - it was pretty easy - simple workshop box - paint and viola!
the only thing was I measured it to hold 40 wolfe cakes... If I use the diamond FX cakes it 3 by 8/9
