New Gig

Well, I had a gig today at an open house at a tractor supply place and the other half is Sea Doos....anyway, got there and set up about 10am....and guess what....it started raining on my pop up! Yep, thunder, lightening and wind! ...however, i still kept painting ...after i tied myself to the fence!...did't stop[ the kids...i got paid a fee of $100.00 for a few hrs work.... It isn't what I would normally charge but I doubt i would have gotten it since the business was struggling and they were in such a small town..however, i got free food and the kids loved it....one little girl said that she thought i was the best face painter she had ever seen!. wow, that made me feel good....anyway, left about 4....that is after the wind blew my pop up over!...lol....my hubby and I caught it and had to turn it back over...i am tired, but happpy.....

tomorrow i am going to a big catholic church...they are doing a benefit....sooo, here i go again...i told them io would make a donation...they were happy with that.....so we will see what tomorrow brings! I'm staying inside tomorrow though...lol....

Woo hoo sounds like fun LOL. My biggest compliment was when we were on holiday and a my little girl was making friends with another little girl and she asked my Em, who painted her face and she said her mum did it and the other little girl said  ' oh cool your mum is a face painter my mum is a nurse '

Aw, that is so sweet!    It makes me wonder if face painters are more respected in your country.  I sometimes don't feel that, but it may be my own perception.

I'm glad it went so well Mollie!  Rain and all!  It's surprising how popular face painting can be, even in a windy, downpour.

Today I had another gig at a catholic church annual bazaar...anyway, it was sort of a flop...not for me and the church as well...they just didn't have the turn out that they thought they would.....there weren't hardly any kids....i had a choice..to be inside with the adults(the ones with the money and where all the goods, foods and auction items are) or outside with the kids next to the moon walk and games(they sold ten dollar wrist bands to thekids for the games)...However, it was clearly understood that I charge and give a donation to the church.....Well, i made about 45.00!...woohoo....anyway, it didn't cost me a thing to be there, and I was only there for 2 hrs...so, it was good I am blessed for sure...the kids also had fun. Im quickly learning that these little ones relate to Elmo. i've painted three in the last two days!....i have got to practice on the cartoon stuff and make some posters up!.....

Elmo can be your life saver!  With the tiny little ones!  Mom says paint there face!  I say no, kids crying!  I tell mom, I can't paint there face! First of all, they are affraid! And this is something I don't want them to be affraid of!  But I will put something on their hand! I then tell mom, some times it's ok if they can see me what I'm doing,  so you take their little hand in yours, talk to them! say to them, so you like elmo? I can really do a nice elmo, elmo is also my friend, watch this! I say " ohhh look at elmo on your hand, And they get so involved watching me paint, swipe swipe, a couple
 eyes and the then see elmo! And they then will trust me! And they are so cute, just holding there hands up looking at elmo!  But if I can talk them in to a cheek elmo, they are amazed when they look into the magic mirror!

i do the very same thing Regina!....several of the kids were scared and one little girl said..."that brush looks sharp, mommy" and started backing away....I showed her that it was soft and let her touch it, "she grinned" after touching it...and i put a little paint on it and touched her hand with it..she thought that was cool....on the little bitty ones...usually i give them a bottle of stick on rhinestones the shake around or something to hold....you sure have to be fast...another thing i do is offer to use the Starblend which is much more forgiving and not as cool as the paint...the kids just think it's colored baby poweder...they dont seem to mind...i even let on little one put a dot on my hand....sure made their day!..i just love kids...but hey, we all do  or we wouldn't be doing this for sure!!

I think some of the little one want to be the ones grabbing your brushes and painting, but as soon as they see that it's them that will be the paintees, it's starts looking like not such a good idea!

you got that right...i think i will buy some little stuffed animals...we can get that really cheap at the dollar store...give them a stuffed animal for being good or maybe a piece of candy....lol....

Mollie I have pack of lovely big colourful stickers in my kit just for that. I have a selection of smiley faces or boy and girl stickers.
Or you could get them made up with you name on them for example " I have been painted by Mollie today " .
