Insurance for one day?
« on: September 26, 2010, 07:57:25 AM »

Does anyone know of insurance for someone who doesn't want to pay for a year's insurance.  They only want it for one event they're doing.  Is this offered anywhere?  I haven't heard of it, so I thought I'd see if anyone on the board has.

Thanks!

I've done a few smaller festivals where they offer me coverage under their policy for an additional $40.
but no - I've never heard of getting it just for one day through a policy.... would love to know if anyone has info on this aswell.

I'm told (by Specialty Insurance) that my daughter would be covered under my regular homeowners policy through the age of 21 as my helper.  It doesn't take a brain surgeon to USE quality tools, although she is a biology brainiac...  I have 2 years of her help left!

I'm a little confused.  Under what circumstances would you need/want coverage for only one day or event?  I have had lots of venues ask me for proof of insurance and I'm so glad I can say that I am insured.  Two gigs would pay for a years coverage.  If my things get ruined or stolen...or if a venue requires it...

It would be interesting to see, anonymously of course, how many painters are insured or uninsured on the forum.  Not trying to open up a sticky here, but now I'm curious to know.

I have been doing events for over 20 years. Only the last five years or so have I been pursuing work on a more regular basis. For the many years, I didn't feel like I needed insurance: didn't work that often and was always working where they paid me and customers got me for free.

But with a few pay per face events under my belt, I am more consciously thinking I need it. Especially when I am bringing MY chairs and tables and MY tent. Things get blown and fall down, what if someone is injured? That worries me. The world is law suit happy.

Here is some information I got from an older posting:

• www.worldclown.com ( I think this is the cheapest route and it's what I started out with.)
• Specialty Insurance.  Their website is www.specialtyinsuranceagency.com.  This is who I get my insurance through.
• The third option I've heard of is www.clownsofamerica.org.  The prices vary, so you'll have to check them each out.

Hope this helps! Cheesy

I don't think insurance is crucial when you're first starting out, but as you start to do more and more events, there are many that require it.  I think customers also feel that you're a more legitimate business when you have insurance.  I bought insurance my first year starting out, because I thought it was another part of being a real business.  Since I was working a lot that year, I had plenty of time to get all my ducks in a row.   Smiley

@Daina - Someone had a question about getting insurance for a one day event, because they didn't have insurance yet, but wanted to do an event that required it.  So they felt like they only needed insurance for that one day event.  They didn't want to spend more money than they had to, because they didn't plan on using it the rest of the year, I believe.

'm wondering if you call your homeowners agent if they can see if your home policy covers any part of facepainting.

It'd be worth a phone call anyways!
