Using up split cakes
« on: December 18, 2009, 06:58:46 AM »

Anyone have any problems using up small split cakes, or is it just me?  I made up a bunch of them early this year, or it may have even been December of last year and I still have yet to use many of them.  I think my pink and purple are the only ones I've needed to replace.  Any ideas?

I sometimes want to use the different colors for different people, but most people want exactly what is on my board and in those exact colors.  I've heard of some face painters matching colors to the colors a person is wearing, but I don't know how this is done, when people only want what is exactly on my board, or they want pink.

Sometimes I don't put up pictures on my board -
I just Write a list of words - like:

Reindeer
Tiger
Snake
Butterfly
etc.

Then, they Say what they want,
and I can paint it any way
in any colors
that I want.

Alison, do you do that at PPF events also? No problem w/people passing by because there is no example of what you are capable of doing?

I LOVE my spilt cakes!  I manily use them for the crowns, flowers, leaves and my peacock butterfly.

I have the same problem of them looking at my board of choices, and saying I want that one EXACTLY!  But, then I say, "Oh, that will be extra beautiful on you!  But do want a real jewel? And, what is your FAVORITE color??" "So, you want that kitty, JUST LIKE  the one up there, BUT, we are going to add our favorite color of ________ !"   Then I go on to paint the new design they just gave me marching orders on.

I don't know how I could create flowers or leaves without my spilt cakes.

I am often told to paint it "just like the picture" or if I am at the party, whatever the bday girl is having, everyone wants to look like "her." I purposely try to make each a bit original. When they ask why, I reply "no snowflake or butterfly or any other creatures are identical, so why should mine be? Every one of you is an original work of art! Most of the time that works.

I usually put out photos.  Because I do a lot of other things besides face-painting.
Frankly, when I'm suddenly thrown into face-painting after spending a week or two fully immersed in Portraits or Illustrations, I'll need the reference to remind me what to paint.  Then, I'll spend a couple of weeks with Face-Painting event after Face-Painting event - during which time I'll be changing those Photos as much as I dare - Don't wanna take away a 'best seller', even though I'd like to do something different.  It's then that I'll remember to just put up signs with words.  And I, as you mention, am hesitant to do so.  Whether I'm working Retail (and need the pictures to get them to stop) or working a Party (and need the pictures to get the party started as well as to make it easy for me to go fast)........

So what I'm most likely to do then is to bring a written list in Addition to the photos.  Then, it's usually only chosen if I can recommend it to someone.  But it does make it easier to think up alternative choices.

Hey all... I know this is a pretty old topic but I thought I would give you a new idea. Keep your pictures up, but maybe have a set of pictures that have your different designs in several different colors. Like have several girls painted as the same princess or butterfly but in different color combos but all in the same picture. The other thing you can tell them is that the design will be the same but the colors will be different or their favorite colors. I don't usually have the problem of them being stuck into what I have out. Most of the kids I have painted light up when I tell them to use their imagination...
